Third of FiveThird of Five (first version)

This Card-Review article was written by Kate De Stephen and was published first on "Decipher's Website (decipher.com)" at Jul 12th, 2000.

Probably the most anticipated drone to hit the STCCG scene since Seven of Nineimage is Third of Five, better known to Star Trek fans as the drone who was rescued by the Federation, given a conventional name, "Hughimage", taught about individuality, and befriended by the crew (particularly Geordi).

Third of Five is not only a unique drone, but serves a very special purpose in the collective. Being a Tactic Drone, he adds 2 to each attribute on a Scout Vesselimage (4 in the Alpha Quadrant). At least one of your Scout Vessels will no longer be as easy a target for bonus point hungry Borg hunters, and the WEAPONS boost will also help fuel a counterattack if your opponent picks on your other Scout Vessels. Also, with the increased range of 11 (wow!) in the Alpha Quadrant (and 9 elsewhere), you can either quickly outrun your opponent, or fly rapidly over to your next objective's target.

Though his ability to pilot and enhance Borg Scout Vesselimages makes him most useful in a Scout Vessel-based Borg deck, he also has some very useful, dilemma-busting skills that would be an asset to a Cube deck as well. And his ability to tap into his "individuality" (his special download of "Hugh"), is always useful for getting his collective out of a potentially sticky situation with the Rogue Borg Mercenariesimage.

    Combos:

    • Third of Five + self-seeded Borg Shipimage Dilemma + Retaskimage: You no longer need sacrifice a Scout Vessel while unleashing a Borg Ship dilemma for the purpose of getting an instant, fully-staffed Cube on the spaceline. Just download Hugh to prevent the Borg Ship's attack.
    • Third of Five + Bio-Med Drone x2 + Bareil of Borgimage + Interlink Drone: No matter who is randomly selected to be disabled, your Collective can still survive the dreaded Fightin' Wordsimage/Aphasia Deviceimage/Tarellian Plague Shipimage combo.
    • Third of Five + Borg Scout Vessel + many Astrogation Drones: With their ability to speed down the spaceline, you no longer need to waste a Space-Time Portalimage picking up your Scout Vessel when you hit a Cytheriansimage.
