Salvage Operation

Salvage Operation has deceptively simple-looking mission requirements, and offers a great deal of flexibility for Borg and non-Borg players alike.

If not playing Borg, and you just want to grab a quick power converter from a derelict ship, you only need one of the three listed skills... but you only get 20 points. Increase the number of skills and you increase the number of points, up to a maximum of 40 points if all three listed skills are present. This may be harder than it looks in Voyager-focused play; Greed is relatively rare among the Delta Quadrant "natives" found in the Voyager expansion.

If playing Borg, you may wish to use Salvage Operation for its special game text, which allows you to target the mission with your Salvage Starship objective. Use your Fair Play to prevent your opponent from snatching an easy 20, 30, or 40 points. You might even choose to seed your Salvage Starship objective, seed your Borg Outpost here, and make this your first target on the spaceline.

The tricky part is what to do if you (playing Borg) and your non-Borg opponent both seed Salvage Operation. Or the other way around. Completing your Salvage Operation does not stop your Borg opponent from completing a Salvage Starship objective targeting her copy of Salvage Operation. The opposite is also true. So what do you do - do you complete Salvage Operation early, or save it for the very last mission you need? A good question, and one you should consider, since Salvage Operation may prove itself to be a very popular Borg mission choice.

Combos:

• Salvage Operation + Salvage Starship + Sphere Encounter: Here's another technique for protecting Salvage Operation after you finish the objective - and it works against your non-Borg opponent who also seeded Salvage Operation (unlike Fair Play).
• Salvage Operation + Culluh: One man, one mission, 40 points, 'nuff said.
