Who better than Q to be the final word in countering abusive strategies? This image was "res-Q'd" from an unreleased sequel to Decipher's "A Klingon Challenge" VCR Game and used to create the long-awaited "Referee icon mechanic."
This single card has four distinct functions. First, it adds Referee icons to a suite of seven cards from pre-Dominion expansions. Second, it allows you to play one Referee icon card for free each turn, clearing your normal card play for helping yourself rather than countering your opponent. Third, it allows you to "cash out" one Referee card each turn for a new card draw. It can come from your hand or from in play, so whether you seeded or drew that Referee card you don't need, you can still trade it for something else instead. The "cashed out" card can also go to either your discard pile or the bottom of your draw deck, so if you think your opponent might be waiting to spring a surprise strategy on you, you can "save" the counter for later use.
Lastly, you can discard Q The Referee to download any other Referee icon card. This download suspends play, meaning that once Q The Referee is face up, you can use it literally at any time - during your turn or your opponent's, between actions or in the middle of one. Any Referee icon card in your deck can be accessed faster than the action it counters can be initiated! All that, and the download is immune to Computer Crash!
So if your opponent smacks you with a strategy that has a Referee card designed to stop it, you'll be hard pressed to come up with an excuse....
Combos:
- Q The Referee + Temporal Vortex
OR Mirror Image
: These Referee cards have countdown boxes. With Q The Referee, you can let those countdowns run down almost completely, then return them from in play to the bottom of your deck to use again later. Best of all, you get a card draw on top of that!
- Q The Referee + Writ of Accountability
+ Nilva
: You no longer have to rely on Brunt
to get your Writ of Accountability. Q The Referee can download the Writ with the same timing and speed as Brunt's special download, making the universal Nilva just as fast-acting as Brunt.
