Brian Sykes - Day 3 Worlds (14th seed)

0-2 vs Michael Bergum, eliminated Round 1

If this deck looks somewhat familiar, don't be surprised. Brian had little confidence in his Maquis deck that had just barely gotten him into Day 3 with a record of 4-4, and asked North American Continental Champion and 8th seed Charlie Plaine if he could borrow Charlie's Dominion Interference deck that Charlie used to secure his Day 3 bye. Charlie, being the compassionate soul he is (and also not wanting his own 1st round matchup to be able to predict his deck choice), handed over the Tier 1 deck grudgingly, knowing that if he and Brian both won their first round matchups, they'd see each other in the quarterfinals.

Mike Bergum's deck remained virtually unchanged from Day 2, which was just a few cards different from Caleb Grace's deck that eventually won the World Championships. Combined with Brian's inexperience in playing the demanding deck design, Mike cruised to a 2-0 victory in Round 1.
