    Data's Emotional Chip

This Card-Review article was written by openCards user The Ninja Scot and was published first on "Decipher's Website (decipher.com)" at Dec 2nd, 2005.

Data's Emotion Chip is a niche card that works best with decks that use a lot of Androids, since they're the only ones that can use it. This two-cost equipment allows each of your Androids present to gain two Integrity at the expense of one Cunning, while at the same time allowing you to rig the top three cards of your draw deck whenever an Android present is stopped by a dilemma.

If you're running a deck heavy with Androids, relying on the Soong-type Androidimages to pick up skills on the fly, you're going to want this Integrity bonus. It'll help you get around Gomtuu Shock Waveimage's Integrity requirements (especially if you give a Soong-Type Android Telepathy) and, since you're limited to using the Soong-Type Android trick once each mission attempt (per Soong-Type Android), you can use the bonus Integrity to choose the least-useful Android to get stopped by Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?image as well. Even the Cunning reduction isn't as bad in some situations, such as coming up against Chula: Echoesimage. With Data's Emotion Chip installed, both Lore and any Federation Data would have nine Cunning and therefore not be stopped by Echoes. (Be careful though: a similarly-equipped non-Aligned Data or Ruk would have an even-numbered Cunning value.)

The other benefit of this card allows you to see what's coming from the top three cards in your draw deck, which has definite benefits. You can rig the top of your deck against cards such as Changed Historyimage, Caught in the Actimage, Getting Under Your Skinimage, Pickpocketimage, Prejudice and Politicsimage, and Tongo: Confrontimage just to name a few. Even if you don't see any of these cards, just knowing what's coming up in your deck and coordinating that with your hand can become quite helpful, whether it's getting a second ship to help ferry your people back and forth, figuring out your next turn with better foreknowledge, or just getting that key card faster. After all, an Android is going to get stopped sooner or later, so you might as well take advantage of that.
